HDFC Netbanking Website Experience

HDFC net banking is a website that I don’t use every day. But when I use it, it is of course for a meaningful task. I often use the desktop website, because I do banking stuff mainly when I am working. And I am the kind of person who likes to work on big screen areas than on a tiny device.

Let’s go straight to the HDFC Netbanking landing page. On banking websites, you get trained to do something and don’t actually want the things to change. But as a designer, I feel the landing of HDFC feels outdated. Every time I see this page, my brain says to me ‘ Why this interface is not in the center?’

Even the continue button looks blurred and the same button is appearing 3 times makes it redundant. There is no primary button.

HDFC Netbanking Landing page

Norton secured gives a sense of security but I feel they could have represented it better and tell me what this security means. The sections like Transfer money, pay bills, and Shop Online will lead you to just the information page. I think they just wanted to use the space and hence had put all these features. Because you cannot do anything till you log in to the website.

I also feel the login should be in the center of the page since it is the most important part of this page and I have to move my cursor on the upper left side to do the task.

One more thing is they have ‘Dos and Don’ts hidden in click here. I feel people using net-banking need education on security or at least a reminder on getting secured. So, wouldn’t it be better to show the below information on the homepage itself?

I am not saying use it like this and fill the whole page with do’s and dont’s but it could be a mix of top HDFC features and some do’s and don’ts.

Upon entering the customer ID, we get a password field. And on the right side, we get ‘Why use IMPS”. Honestly speaking, I don’t know what is IMPS first I’ve just searched and got to know it means ‘Immediate Payment Service’. I think the use of the ‘Netbanking’ word would have been better here.

If you look at the image above there are two checkboxes we get too. One is for ‘virtual keyboard’, I think it is a great feature for security, as your keys could be mapped by any hacking software online. But they have given it as an option, it is not mandatory. Still, they show the virtual keyboard without me even enabling it. The problem with this is as a user you don’t realize something has happened on the screen or what a user needs to do now. I think on marking the checkbox, this keyboard should have appeared. Moreover, the placement of the keyboard is quite far from the checkbox.’How about opening it as an overlay near the checkbox option?’(just a thought).

Password field has a ‘Forgot Password’ link below it’s text-field. When we open the forgot password page, we get something like this

Again the screen does not look good in terms of padding, line height, and alignment. But this is a small issue here. I think the big one is you need to enter customer ID again on this screen. I wonder why they have not auto-filled the customer ID when I had already filled it on the home screen. If it is for security reasons, then it is fin…else it is a mistake.

There is one more checkbox that is for secure access. We get a unique image with its name here, which means some other user will get some other image. You will get the same image when you enter the customer ID. It is easy to be sure that you have entered the right Customer ID.

TAKEAWAY

Functionality wise I don’t have any major issues with the HDFC net-banking homepage. But I think they could make it look modern and could be made the page more informative about their main offerings. They could guide the user how to be secure while using net-banking and also give bank updates.

I will share my views on some other interface in my next article. Follow me and let’s explore and learn together :)
